After exposing two rolls earlier in the morning, I went home to have a little lunch and refresh myself. Since I was somewhat anxious to complete my hormone administration over, I didn’t want to wait until the next day (as I had originally planned) and instead boarded a bus and headed to the compounding pharmacy near Lincoln Fields.¹

Picking up my vials of estradiol valerate and beginning supply of needles and syringes was uneventful and the pharmacist was very kind and helpful, which I appreciated.

I’ve had some fairly gruff and transmisogynist pharmacists in the past — especially before landing on White Cross nearby — that I wasn’t certain what to expect when I first arrived. Fortunately, once I presented myself at the counter, my fears evaporated and I relaxed considerably.

Stuffing my prescription, needles, syringes, sharps container and other bits and bobs into my tote, I left the pharmacy just in time for the sky to open up: more inconvenient rain. The story of August so far.

1. While the location wouldn’t have been my first choice, it’s the local one my NP was familiar with, saving me the legwork of figuring out which compounding pharmacies do so on site for injection. Apparently not all of them compound for injection purposes and many of those who do send it off site, increasing the costs.
   
   From 2003 to 2006, I worked at the Wal-Mart that was part of the shopping mall (which was demolished a few years ago). Originally opening as an Ogilvy, it later converted to a Woolco, and then a Wal-Mart, when the chain entered Canada in the mid-1990s. When I worked there, we had a few staff who began working there when it was a Woolco and were among the store’s few unionized employees. I haven’t had much need to be in that part of town in a long time, so it was a bit novel to visit. ↩︎
