I spent nearly all day outside on Monday. I hadn’t really planned on it: just the usual morning walk is what I figured.

I had an appointment booked with my Nurse Practitioner in the morning and I was going to request that I change administration of my hormones from sublingual to injections. He was happy to oblige and as soon as the appointment was over, he forwarded my new prescription to one of the city’s compounding pharmacies.¹

I was expecting to take a day or two for the pharmacy to contact me, so I decided to go out for my morning walk and slowly gin myself up for administering my own needles. It must have been not 30 minutes and while I was walking through The Glebe, my phone rang: it was the pharmacy asking me if I would like my prescription filled immediately (I did)². They got to work and a short while after that, they called me again to inform me that it was ready to be picked up.

Since it all happened so quickly³, I got fairly excited and energized. I walked a little more lightly and with more pep, and my walk turned out a bit longer than I was expecting. Enough, in fact, to expose two rolls. I haven’t had that sort of stamina since before surgery!

1. There aren’t any companies selling prepared injectable estradiol in Canada, so it has to be prepared by a compounding pharmacy. While not all compounding pharmacies will prepare for injection, many do. We have two or three here in Ottawa. ↩︎

Since nobody is selling prepared injectable estradiol in Canada, such preparations don’t have a readily-available drug identification number and are therefore not readily covered by insurance plans. I’ve seen a blog piece suggesting that it’s possible to have it covered, so that is what I am working on now. Until then, I am paying out of pocket. ↩︎
3. I’m not sure why I found it a little bit surprising: when I began HRT two years ago (as of tomorrow), it was also the same day. ↩︎
