Being another lovely day, Kathleen and I decided that we wanted to spend more time outside on Sunday. With a forecast that was even warmer than Saturday, it didn’t take us long to make plans for ice cream! 🍦
Of course, just having finished breakfast and in need of extra meal planning and groceries because of the Holiday, the morning would have just another lil’ local loop. Clear and sunny, I decided that it was finally time to use the slower-speed cinema film in the fridge – Vision3 50D.
While out on our loop, I was making photos of flowers, when we passed the basketball court at St. Luke’s Park. A man and his friend asked me to make a photo of them. Since I do get asked this on occasion, I approached them to explain that I had slow film loaded and they were in the shade, so it would be a challenge unless they wanted to get in the sun.
Well, I didn’t make it that far, really. Once they saw that I was trans, they quickly pivoted to ask Kathleen whether she was into photography and made it clear that any interest they might have had in a photo by me had evaporated.
I don’t normally agree to make photos of strangers who ask. Mostly, I don’t want to share my contact information with them and don’t want to be responsible for their photos, but I am also just not very good at making photos of people.
Anyway, having failed at flattering Kathleen, the conversation died out entirely and we wandered back to the sidewalk and continued on our morning. They were at least polite enough to spare me the earshot transphobia that I sometimes receive when leaving.
Of course, it would never have gone the way they were thinking it might when we were first beckoned: Kathleen and I have been together for over ten years and are not poly. I am not interested in men, and, while Kathleen can be, they were not exactly her sort.
Sorry for the Sunday misunderstanding, boys. 💁🏻♀️
You might notice that the colour balance is a bit uneven on this roll. I am finding that 50D can be a little bit more challenging to scan than 250D is and, at least for some frames, getting the exact result I was looking for remained elusive. I know that as my colour scanning skills continue to develop, it is quite likely that I will revisit this roll.
