One Bright Saturday Morning in February

Written by

We had one more weekend out and about while we were away in Halifax for the relative peace-and-quiet in February 2022 and it was a *glorious* one.

Remembering the lovely time we had in the North End the last time we had been in town together (Winter 2017), we decided on a very sunny and clear Saturday morning to pay another visit.

In many ways, it represented a sort of high water mark for when we were away: the snow, the sun, the good feelings. We even began to wonder if, in the case of the occupiers becoming – if not permanent – routine, would we actually be better off moving? Even Halifax? We didn’t want to, but in the glory of the sun and with a head tilt and a squint into an imagined future, again, if we had to, the North End seemed like the one place for us in the HRM.

From there until we would return home on March 11, the weather fell into a sort of oppressive cloudiness: a fitting reflection of what was happening inside at the time.

Every time I scan a roll of ColorPlus, I’m reminded that – second only to Ektachrome – ColorPlus is actually my favourite of Kodak’s current line of colour films. I may use Gold more often, but that’s more a function of its ubiquity.

Of course, ColorPlus is derived from an older version of Gold and is closer to my own sense of nostalgia.
