Since we were expecting the skies to be overcast on Saturday’s adventure to Pine Hill, we decided to give our film a little two-stop push so that we would not be stuck with fully-open apertures in a darkened forest area.
Of course – the best-laid plans – about one third the way through our rolls, who showed up, but Mr. Sun! (Sun. Mr. Golden Sun) We nevertheless made the best of it, though found ourselves with some blown highlights here and there.
After we were finished with Pine Hill, we snaked our way through Rockcliffe toward Acacia, so we would pop out at Beechwood. I wanted to see what sorts of change might have happened along the delightful and winding thoroughfare in the last few years.
In the end, the whole morning was quite pleasant and included stops at Jacobson’s and Books on Beechwood. I was still not entirely inspired where photos were concerned, so did not finish the roll of Tri-X I had loaded.

Mostly because it tends to waste frames, I don’t often cut the film out of a camera for development. On Saturday, however, I chose to cut so I could develop my Pine Hill and Kathleen’s Pine Hill photos at the same time.
With somewhere between 8 and 10 frames remaining, I decided that a nice way to use them would be behind my single favourite lens, the Minolta MC Rokkor-PF 58mm f/1.4.
Admittedly, since my XG-1 went out of commission, I’ve been neglecting this lens. The SR-T 201 I have works well, but not its meter, so I meter manually. I still find this a bit of an annoyance in comparison to a built-in meter, so those cameras don’t get used quite so often.
This lens is most definitely testing my will to avoid purchasing another XG-1 or similar Minolta so that I am more likely to let it see sun more often.
