In Search Of A Fat Quarter (Or Six)

On Saturday, Kathleen and I decided on a little bit of a traditional adventure for ourselves.

Kathleen is working on a few small sewing projects – including some hair scrunchies with a hidden compartment in a decorative bow and backpack repairs – so we decided to head to Fabrications, a most lovely fabric store at Carling and Cole.

It’s always a delight to spend time in there (even if I can’t sew, knit, crochet, quilt, or do any of the other fibre arts), and, as it has *always* been for me, I like to marvel at the various colours and prints of fabric, see the samples of dresses, skirts, blouses, sweaters, and bags you can learn to make in their classes, and, of course, the colourful racks of thread.

It’s as if I’m eternally three in a fabric store!

While out in that area, I also really like making photos of the 1950s homes, duplexes, and clusters of six-plexes. These apartments have always captured my imagination and in some of these developments, I get a bit of a time travel feel.

Once we were finished with the fabric shopping, we headed up toward Westboro for some lunch. We decided on Pure Kitchen, where I had a sort of salad roll bowl and Kathleen a mushroom walnut burger, both of which were very tasty!

Much like on Elgin Street, Westboro was putting on a Halloween event for the neighbourhood’s children, where they would trick-or-treat along Richmond at the various businesses. There were just too many cute little munchkins in their costumes! It seems that the Spider Man/Elsa monopoly of the last 10 years or so has faded, giving way to there being dozens of Pikachus.

After picking up a few things at the always-too-busy Loblaws, we hopped on the bus to get ourselves back home.
