Charlotte Makes Photos

Notwithstanding my recent resolution to narrow myself down to a few preferred film-and-developer combinations, I still have a little work to do to, y’know, actually settle on what “preferred” means.

For the most part, that has been pretty simple: Ilford FP4+ or Fomapan 200 (at 125) for medium-speed black and white, and either HP5+ or Kodak Tri-X for fast and for pushing to 1600. I find the 3200s too grainy for my tastes, so don’t tend to like using them.

That still leaves something in the slow category. While we don’t tend to get nice bright sunlight frequently enough for when I’m otherwise able to make photos — and I’d usually want to make colour photos then — I still really like the results from slower black and white films.

In this case, I was reminded this past Saturday how much I really like Ilford’s PanF+, a sharp and smooth 50ISO black and white film. When combined with Mic(rodol)-X, it just gives me a very satisfying image and I’d certainly be missing out if I were to leave it out of my preferences.
