My final morning in Toronto went by quickly. Perhaps a little too quickly, but I think that’s always the case when you’re somewhere you love with someone you love.
Like the morning before, my sister and I were scheduled to meet up around 11 in the morning. This would coincide with my check-out time and we would meet up as doing so.
Seeing as that I am a morning person who very much relishes her breakfast, I took the opportunity to find a different place, even if my first impulse was to return to Bloomer’s for another donut. Part of this little mini trip was also vegan reconnaissance for a future visit!
To that end, I chose Tsuchi, a vegan Japanese-style café in Little Italy. There, I had a lovely oat latte and a breakfast sandwich, which were both quite delicious!
After that, I returned to the hotel to check out and meet my sister. After dropping my baggage off at the VIA Rail counter for safekeeping, we went for a little walk nearby. Of course, I had to stop in a Downtown Camera (from where my allotment of slide film for Spring an a bulk roll of Ilford FP4+ followed me) and, afterward, we had just enough time for lunch.
Tummies filled, it was time for me to head home. After a very big hug, she left for the subway back home, and I got into line for my train back to Ottawa.
Medium Format Travels
This was the first vacation to Toronto where I chose to take a 120 camera with me. Normally, I prioritize 35mm when travelling due to the weight and number of photos I can make. While the reasoning for the former just makes good sense, the latter comes from years of not knowing when I would be able to travel again.
Although the Wednesday was still quite chilly, I enjoyed my first time making medium format photos in a different city. Of course, it’s no different elsewhere than it is at home, but something about the familiarity of landscape in a familiar place reduces some of the cognitive and emotional load associated with standing in place and (possibly) attracting attention elsewhere.
Now, if only I could figure out why the colours need so much more extra work on my V600 in macOS when my 35mm scanner, the Plustek 8200i delivers what I’m looking for without much in the way of editing.
The above are “best effort”, but not quite what I am looking for.
