Vacation Time: Atlantic Adventures, September 16, 2024

I’ve always found it a risk when I am making photos in a new-to-me place. I’m paying so much attention to the new and (often) interesting surroundings that I don’t really have a sort of “mind’s eye” and end up with a roll of rather uninspired and poor photos.

For me at least, it requires a bit more familiarity! Walking through an area repeatedly gives me an opportunity to find interesting scenes and hopefully an interesting photo. I also get a certain comfort knowing that it’s less likely I’ll be accosted by someone and my personal safety assured (or as assured as much as it can be).1

Unfortunately, perhaps save for a few frames I like, the third (and final) roll from our little after-lunch walk in Halifax very much bears the mark of being unfamiliar with a specific neighbourhood.

  1. While this mostly seems to be a challenge to overcome when on vacation, locally, no matter how familiar I may be with an area, when the vibes are rancid, the photos show that too. ↩︎
