Unlike the lil’ local loop, a lil’ walky-boo is just a short walk around the neighbourhood. In this case, I was antsy to get outdoors on a morning where the stores were closed until just after lunch for Remembrance Day.
It’s always a little interesting to go outside on what is (rightfully) a quiet and solemn day in the capital. There are so many people who don’t usually spend much time in the city’s non-downtown central neighbourhoods attending the ceremonies and in search of on-street parking.
On the negative side, as a visibly transgender woman, I do get a bit of an uptick in lingering stares and even a look or two of disgust. While these don’t really bother me, I still notice. I’m usually virtually invisible when out, but when more people are in the area for events, it’s less so.
On the positive (and more important) side, I get to see people who haven’t been in Centretown for years proudly showing their families and loved-ones the places they used to live, work, and play. I was even stopped by a nice gentleman on his own who wanted someone to share the joy he was feeling in walking down a street he lived on over 50 years ago. I always appreciate these little interactions.

On the literal negative side, I once again seem to have overdeveloped a roll. While I was able to recover some mostly pleasing results in scanning, I think I’ll have to use a bit more caution with my timings and read a little more widely on some of the slightly less-familiar developers to get the best results.
