This past Sunday, Kathleen and I did something we hadn’t done in quite some time. We went out on a school work night. And it was not just any work night: it was the Sunday before Kathleen was to begin a new job.

For a pair of grandmothers who have been struggling to treat bedtime as a bit more of a suggestion than a royal summons, this was no mean feat

What got us out of the house on a Sunday evening (an early Sunday evening) was music and art. More specifically, Caitlyn/CPI (“bedroom music for bedroom people”) would be on the decks at Fono (a fairly new place on Bronson at Gladstone) and she brought with her a whole load of art books with her! The idea was a sort of relaxing Sunday evening with great music and art.

And, well, we had a lovely time! We sat at the bar (the tables having been reserved) to the left of the DJ booth and began browsing some of the books together. Although we did not last the full three hours and left at 7 to wind down (baby steps), that didn’t stop us from excitedly talking about it all on our 30-minute walk home.

As I’ve probably mentioned on here before, Kathleen and I really love visiting art galleries and find them inspiring for our own sorts of art and craft, so browsing books we’ve not seen before — mostly featuring artists we’re only passingly familiar with — was a treat and we found ourselves lost in a world of artists like Sharry Boyle and David Altmejd.

Fortunately, it was not a one-time event, with another being held on October 18. We will most certainly be there too. ☺️🎶📚
