With plans to meet up with my sister later that morning, I struck out around 8 in search of breakfast.
I won’t lie: it was cold. Really cold. Bitter, bitter, bitter winds, snow, the works. I shivered, cursed the unexpected early-April cold snap, and proceeded to make photos all the same. It’s what I do!
I wanted a sweet breakfast that morning and since I was travelling, it meant something a little more substantial than my usual cereal with a cut banana or cashew butter toast.
It had to be a donut. And not just any donut. I needed to give Bloomer’s a try, an all-vegan donut shop that has been around for some time, but one I had only discovered for myself by happenstance.
(It didn’t hurt that I broke down and opened an Instagram account again.)
Iโm certainly not going to complain about starting my day this way. ๐ฉ

As soon as I bit into the filled carrot cake donut, my slight crankiness melted away and I knew that I could face the weather going forward. These donuts were good. So very good. And I wish we had something like that here in Ottawa. Perhaps it’s good that we don’t!
After lingering in their Queen West shop for a bit, I decided to take the next street car back toward the downtown so that I could return to the hotel room, change the 85mm lens for a 50mm one, and pack some more film.
My sister and I would meet at Little Canada around 11 am.
