One Montreal Morning

Written by

It was now almost four years ago that Kathleen and I attended a friend’s wedding in Montreal. We had a lovely time and the ceremony and reception were quite beautiful. Due to the COVID-19-era spike in hotel prices, instead of a two-or-three day vacation, we only made it a quick overnight.

Me being me, this gave me the opportunity to expose a two rolls of film the morning after during the three hours between waking up and our train’s departure before lunchtime.

I learned three things during this little trip:

  1. I don’t make opportunity photos very well and the two rolls were somewhat disappointing. I might have also benefited from a longer lens instead of a wider one.
  2. When Kathleen and were I were having breakfast at a nearby McDonald’s, the radio played Charlotte Cardin’s “Confetti“, which was the first time we had heard it and instantly fell in love with the album.
  3. My experience as a plainly-visible trans woman in Montreal was no different than it was then for me in Ottawa. Namely, it was mostly uneventful, but I still did get an unkind comment or two in the street.
