…once Kathleen and I decided that we had our fill of tulips and crowds and crowds and crowds, and having been startled by an unexpected-to-us RCAF flyover, we decided to make our way against the crowds back up Preston Street, where we still had one stop to make.
Our dinner that evening was to be a hot hunny crispy tofu sandwich, and I decided that it perhaps called for a more substantial bread than we might have found at the grocery store. I had been hearing so much about Almanac on Beech lately, so we decided to pop in!
Although it seemed like it wouldn’t exactly go, we decided on a sourdough seed loaf, which, in addition to being very tasty on its own, turned out to be a better flavour match for the sandwiches than we expected. In fact, I’ve been enjoying it toasted with vegan butter and apple hunnie for breakfast since!
What about the “test”?
This, being the second ECN-2 roll I developed, ended up looking a little better than the first.
- Inspired by the first roll’s under-developed look and by my experience with E6, I was a little more vigorous with the inversions and I was given nice-looking and clean negatives in exchange.
- Scanning was still a challenge, with a much more active approach to colour grading than I’m used to. Scenes that were more like the general cityscapes I normally make photos of were easier to scan. Flowers seemed to confuse the scanner software’s automatic settings.
All-in-all, I’m reasonably pleased with the results that I am getting developing and scanning my own ECN-2 film. Just right at this moment, given the additional work required, I don’t know if I would continue with it once I am finished with the chemistry and film I already have, but it’s nice to know that I have another option should I be inclined.
