Since the sun was out yesterday (*finally!*), as a treat, I chose a slower film from the fridge to load for our frigid New Years Day walk around the neighbourhood.
To increase the risk of disappointment a little, I chose one that I had never used before: Astrum NK-2SH. Since I’ve used other Astrum films (Foto 400, FN-64) before and developed them in HC-110, I knew that I was in for a whole lot of contrast. As more of a medium contrast kinda girlie, very much the opposite of what I normally seek.
Still, that we’ve existed beneath overcast skies and flat light since mid-October, I was anxious to spend a little time on the margins.
And what I can I say? The major contrast was immediately apparent when I pulled the film from the tank (the clear polyester base helps). Unfortunately, I did get some runaway highlights. With bright January sun piercing the cold and dry January air, that was bound to happen. Especially with HC-110B.
