As a public servant, Remembrance Day is not a workday, so Kathleen and I were not at our desks. Although I do not attend formal ceremonies (including the national ceremony that takes place at the memorial every year), I take the opportunity for quiet contemplation.

It may not be surprising that I have complicated feelings about the observance, both past and present.

After lunch, when the stores reopened, Kathleen and I headed out to – you might have guessed – run a few errands. We had been playing green bin chicken this week and were on the precipice of losing (i.e. we were out of bin liners and the one in the bin was perilously full), so made our way to the Shopper’s at Bank and Gladstone.

It was an entirely uneventful little walk, but what was appreciated was that the sun came out for a bit during the afternoon! Sun! No fooling! It has been rather cloudy (and rainy or snowy) lately, so the sun was very much appreciated.

…especially since the clouds (and rain and now) have returned.
