The first real snow of the season never really lasts. When the temperatures are playing jump-rope with freezing, we’re always bound to get some accumulation, but it’s just as likely to melt within a day or two.
That’s what happened two years ago in 2023, when on the 8th, it was chilly and bare, but on the 9th, we had the beginnings of a winter wonderland …which had melted and returned to dry by the 10th.
Beginning late this afternoon, we’re expecting up to 15cm (6″) of snow to accumulate through the evening and overnight. I have my complaints about winter1, but the season is undeniably pretty and highly photogenic.
Although I am not quite ready to face winter proper (my new boots need to arrive first), it is a sure thing that I will be out and about with a camera to capture the snowy majesty on Monday morning.

- Before that depressing trench between mid-March and mid-May, most of them have less to do with the season itself and more with the city’s determination to both under-promise and under-deliver on winter maintenance of the public realm. Where it does deliver, it’s four wheels good; two feet bad. ↩︎
