As we continue through the this summer’s creative slowdown, I realize that this week might have been the first time that I have taken nearly a week to get through a single roll of film.
×-×-×-×-×-×-×
On the topic of a single roll, or more accurately, a single film stock, I have been considering that it might be best to limit myself to one film (and one developer) for our upcoming vacation in September.
This is new for me, but it’s perhaps a lesson learned after our vacation in May. When we were in Toronto and Hamilton, I brought a wide variety of film stocks with me. It allowed me to run down a growing film stash and, frankly, I find it more fun that way.
It also made developing two dozen rolls when I got home a bit more of a pain in the bum. And it opened more opportunities for error on my part.
So for our trip to Halifax next month, I have been considering one black-and-white film (Ilford FP4+? Kodak Tri-X?) and one developer (D-96? DD-X?). This would help keep things a little more simple and predictable on return, but I also really *love* these combinations.
I’m really like FP4+ in D-96, but if the weather brings clouds, the extra speed of Tri-X will be quite welcome.
Since the East Coast is so colourful, I would bring some Ultramax for my colour needs.
