It’s not that often more than one or two days passes where I don’t make photos. Between bouts of hostile(-to-me) weather and variety of other life needs, it took me until yesterday (Friday) to load another roll into a camera after the little floral adventure last Sunday.
I was not entirely confident that it would be sunny in the afternoon once I finished work, so I decided to load my second roll of Kentmere 200 into the Nikkormat again and take a longer post-work loop around the neighbourhood.
I think I may be a little more ambivalent about this film now.
The bloomy, glowing highlights (a result, I think, of the lower silver content and lack of an antihalation layer1) shows quite a lot on a brighter day. As someone who has always been particularly opposed to bloomy, hot, runaway highlights in her photos, I don’t know if the savings compared to Ilford FP4+, for example, are entirely worth it to me.
Still, it’s lovely to see something new on the market. I preferred the results in flatter, lower, light, so it would perhaps be a nice choice for a more overcast day.

- Both ways to achieve a lower price point, which is the role of the Kentmere line. Photo No. 3 above (the car and bicycle) really shows the starburst. ↩︎
