Kathleen and I can be fairly *~* r o u t i n e *~* in the way we go about life.

In general, working age life practically demands routine. And when you throw in a dash of anxiety and suspect that a quantity of neurodiversity was not on the ingredient list, well, you can’t quite help but feel that things have become uncomfortably repetitive.

That was probably too circular a way to write that we’ve come to feel that we really ought to be doing more interesting things. And for all that we may have become critical of Ottawa for, in reality, there are usually things happening that would be fun to participate in!

To that end, the very same morning, we decided that instead of our normal domestic Sunday routine (errands, chores, hobbies), we would walk down Somerset West to partake in the last day of the Night Market in Chinatown. Conveniently held during the day, we would only have to disrupt our usual routine, but not sacrifice the most holy of commitments: bed time!1

Not only was it quite fun to be around so many people, but the food was tasty and we really enjoyed ourselves. It definitely helped us realize we miiiiiight be sticking a little too close to home these days and should probably get back to at least doing something a little more on weekends.

  1. It’s mostly very silly, but (a) our natural rhythms are fairly early-to-bed-early-to-rise; and (b) on office days (like Monday), I wake up at 4:30am to get in on time for my 7-3 shift. ↩︎
