When on vacation, Kathleen and I very consciously avoid making too many specific plans. We’ve found that it is just a cause for stress and that there is a chance that something we might find super fun and interesting and before vacation a little less so once we’re there. Still, it can be helpful to have a short mental list of things to do!

When we woke up to a bright and sunny Sunday morning, we though of one thing: capybaras. This meant a visit to High Park and, more specifically, the High Park Zoo.

I visited Toronto twice in 2016, both to conduct research. While Kathleen and I were together back then, she was away working in Fort St. John, BC. 2016 was also the year of the great capybara escape! Ever since, when the opportunity has arisen, we have made sure to pay these comically-large guinea pigs a good visit.

After having spent a little time with the capybaras, and the yaks, highland cows (another of Kathleen’s favourites), the emu, goats, bison, and llamas, we turned back toward Roncesvalles for a leisurely Sunday stroll. As we were leaving, we were stopped a few times by people looking for the locally-famous Cherry Blossoms.

Unfortunately for them, by May 11, we were on the other side of their peak and like most spring blossoms, they were largely gone. Or at least much less resplendent than they were the weekend before!
