I think I might have written about it at some time in the past, but one of the things I am trying to do with making photos is to sort of capture or record movement in a space. It’s the part of me that is influenced more by cinematographers than photographers, enthusiastic hobbyists, and by civic employees documenting urban growth in the middle 20th century.
While it could just be an excuse for not slowing down or considering any specific photo or developing a real “professional eye”, I like to see it as a collection of photos being more valuable to me than any one specific frame and that being out and about with a camera should never feel like a chore.
I’ve always found that using portrait and short telephoto lenses (i.e. 85mm, 105mm, 135mm) give me results that I can almost feel moving. At least to me, it feels a little like a cheat code.
It’s a wonder why I don’t use them more often!
