On Friday night and Saturday morning nature decided that we had enough time without new snowfall and it was time to add a little more.

I think nature was right!

Setting aside the real and important benefits of there being enough snowfall, with a bit of a warm stretch since our snow storms, the remaining snow banks were brown and grey from salt, sand, fragments of tire, and general grime – all signs that brown-and-sticks season was on its way.

I’m sure I’ve written about it on here before, but brown-and-sticks season is easily my least favourite. The bright and fresh snow is gone, giving us only the light-absorbing darkness of mud, asphalt and concrete, shrinking and dirty snow piles, and we’re still awake well before the alarm for most plants, flowers, and many of the most lovely birds!

While all of Saturday’s scenes were familiar, thanks to the fresh snowfall, I was at least moved to load a roll and make photos!

As for the title?

A little fragment of a song we had to sing in third grade. One of Mrs. Quinn’s regular picks, along with a song about Ontario1. I have often wondered just whose March works like that because we were lucky to have winter finish out fully by the end of April.
